Exploring the ruins of Mexico

July 15, 2012 by Jean Holy Smithereens Leave a Comment

Apocalypto is one of my favourite movies, and this is one of the reasons why I wanted to explore Mexico. We really wanted to go to Macchu Pichu but our time and budget dictated that Peru and the rest of the other South American wonders, will have to go next time. The ruins and pyramids of Mexico, though not as grandiose as the Machu Pichu , is nevertheless breathtaking and if you are a history and archeological buff like my husband (I’m into it too, but wouldn’t call myself a “buff” or fanatic), it’s definitely going to be a memorable trip.

The reason why our trip was spread out is that the ruins we wanted to see will require us to travel from Mexico City, the fly to Merida, and then take the long bus trip to Cancun.

1.) Teotihuacan
2.) Chichen Itza
3.) Tulum
4.) Uxmal

I won’t bore you with one by one photo and descriptions–I made a movie clip out of it –as usual!

It was extremely hot in all those places, I wouldn’t suggest people my mom’s age (above 60) to do this unless they’re really in the best of health.

Here I am sucking the bejeezus out of an ice candy bar. It was heaven!

important things to take with you: essential sun cover, and water! I think I downed more than a dozen bottles of water throughout the trip. It’s amazing how much water you require when you sweat so much.

Even then, with all the above plus layers of sunscreen, I managed to still get cooked, and well done at that!

Yes, it hurt and burned like ants gone crazy on your skin–especially when I slept.

BUT IT WAS ALL WELL WORTH IT!
