Glacier Guides Lodge: Our Accommodation in West Glacier, Montana

October 29, 2012 by Jean Holy Smithereens Leave a Comment

Excited as we were after exploring the National Bison Range, we were also ready to rest our heads and call it a day. We had been driving the entire day after all.It was still a pretty long drive to West Glacier. Glacier Guides Lodge is a pretty famous property (and they also run adventure tours and 1 other accommodation property in the area) in West Glacier and almost everybody knows about it. The only downside to this is, all those 3 companies/establishments are named “Glacier Guides Lodge” and we went to the 2 wrong Glacier Guides before hitting the correct lodge.2 of them are in the same area (the 2 accommodation properties) and the adventure company is on the other side of the freeway.

So we reached the (correct) Glacier Guides Lodge almost sundown.

The property is pretty secluded, it’s also settled in pretty elevated ground so it was cooler than usual West Glacier temperature.

The entire lodge is 2 storeys high.  Our room was on the second floor. Normally a good thing since you don’t want to hear the roaring engines of cars if you are on the ground floor.
But it’s a bummer to carry the huge bags up the stairs (no lift/ elevators). So my tip is, if you know you will have heavier than usual luggage, try to request for a ground floor room.

Second floor rooms.

I totally loved our room. It was very spacious, very cool and most importantly, very clean.

The room comes with AC, which I can imagine is handy during summer. We didn’t even use it as it was already really breezy and cool! There was also TV which I never even switched on as I was enjoying the tranquil ambience.

The woods are right outside the windows. I saw a lot of squirrels! We kept the windows open the whole night. It was super. Clean fresh air–the best humidifier there is. Combined with the fatigue we had driving the whole day,  I really had one of the Best sleeps in this room. The bed and pillows were very firm too. (which i really like)

One of the interesting things is the separate toilet/bath and faucet/dresser area.

At first I found it strange but the layout is actually very functional and thoughtful. Our room would normally house 4 guests and with just 1 bathroom, this separate layout can minimise waiting times.

There wasn’t any phone inside the room however you can use a common phone in the main area, and Wi-Fi was also included.

Breakfast was included however the breakfast area was too small. We had to have ours outside the main area as it was too full.

I would rate the customer service for the Glacier Guides Lodge extremely high. From booking stage, they maintained frequent contact and even did a “countdown” for me, closer to the date of my check in. They were highly accommodating too and even volunteered map pdf files and other helpful information.
