Beautiful Wyoming is the backdrop of Django Unchained!

February 11, 2013 by Jean Holy Smithereens Leave a Comment

Have you seen the latest Quentin Tarantino film yet?  I love me a good Tarantino, and Django Unchained can easily be his BEST film. I thought Inglorious Basterds was pretty good, but when I saw Django Unchained a week ago, I proclaimed it my favourite Tarantino film. Well it’s also in my top 10 movies now so yes I loved it THAT MUCH!I won’t talk about the story but a big part that makes this movie unforgettable for me is the location.
The story takes place in the West and South of the USA– only my 2 favourite things about America!
I have explored the Northwest USA pretty well from my last trip. I fell in love with Montana and Wyoming, and while I have yet to explore the grandeur of the Southern states of the US, I am already in love with its history and culture. So Django Unchained was shot in marvellous and beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

No better place to shoot a good western than the home of dude ranches and rodeos! It’s not the typical John Wayne setting (you go to Moab, Utah and the badlands for that).

I only spent 1 night in Jackson Hole, but I did drive through the Grand Tetons (coming from Yellowstone, Montana) and already, while driving through, I regretted that I didn’t spend at least a WEEK in Jackson Hole. (By then it was too late to alter our plans.)

I also wrote a short post about Jackson Hole, WY , and why  it is the prettiest “hole” I’d ever had the pleasure of being in!

I also had the pleasure of dining at the popular bar in town, The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. Their steaks were awesome, but the most memorable part was the band and dancing!

Zombie loved Jackson Hole so much that he got out of bed from our Jackson Hole hotel at around 4AM, drove to the Grand Tetons, and captured this amazing time-lapse shot of sunrise over the Grand Teton National Park.

This is how much he loves nature, he cannot resist it even if temperatures were below zero!

And what was I doing, you ask while all this was happening? Shamefully I was snoozing under the warm bed of our hotel. I am a pure zombie early in the morning. But I really wish I did go with him to see this marvellous sight.

you better click on this to get a full view. it’s beautiful!

I’m so glad my husband is such an outdoor photography buff otherwise I would not even see how beautiful this place was, and it was right under my nose.

As much as I am a beach and ocean girl, take me to a good ranch in the west and I am so totally there!

These were not in Wyoming, but in the border of Montana and Idaho. Nevertheless I fell in love with the Northwestern states.
