Abu Dhabi’s Iconic Leaning Tower: Hyatt Capital Gate

March 18, 2013 by Jean Holy Smithereens 2 Comments

In comparison to Dubai, Abu Dhabi seems flatter and less bustling. Less crowded and more open spaces. It works for me as I don’t like very urbanised places. So on that reason alone, I tend to like Abu Dhabi more.Having said that though, Abu Dhabi also boasts of it’s iconic leaning tower, one of the smartest building designs, the Hyatt Capital Gate / (ADNEC) – Abu Dhabi National Exhxibitions Company

This is the building from afar. Some of you may be familiar with it but don’t know what it is. So it is both a hotel (Hyatt Capital Gate) and an exhibition centre (ADNEC) at the base of the building.

I had the opportunity to stay here on my last few days in Abu Dhabi. I normally enjoy a more “flat” layout style of hotel (like the Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel & Villas which I wrote about here and here)
But this stylishly ‘crooked’ property did not fail to take my breath away. Let me show you why.

First off, the hotel and lobby interiors. I am in love with the chandeliers and hanging lights design. They seem to be floating so it gives you the feeling you are kind of underwater!

It’s picture heavy but it won’t do it justice if I made the above photos into a collage. I just love the recurring floating lights theme throughout the hotel. It’s not overly done yet grand enough to give that extraordinary ambience.

I stayed at the lead in category room yet that alone was impressive. All rooms have floor to ceiling windows so you get an impressive view. And I’m starting to love the glass partitions/walk through feature of bathrooms that seem to be a growing trend among newer hotels.

The room next to mine is a suite, and this is what the bedroom looked like

Easily one of the most impressive room views I have ever seen in a hotel.
The gym and the spa. The gym also has a floor to ceiling window view.
And here’s an interesting bit. The building is shaped like a cylinder, so all rooms have spectacular views. And because of the twisted/leaning design, the first half of the building, floors 1-18 uses a different lift. So if I’m on the 26th floor and I want to go down to the ground level, I’d have to go to level 18 first, get out, and switch elevators. Can be abit of a hassle when you are in a hurry or carrying stuff, but nevertheless, I find it cool!
And this is what it looks like inside the building, looking up

And the exterior, along with the hotel pool:

In the lounge area there’s this reading nook, and I love the design, I want one for my own house one day!

A shot from the ground level that shows the spacey interior design:

Hyatt Capital Gate is a popular choice for business and government travellers. Embassies and consulates are located near this area. It is also popular for conference venues, with the ADNEC being just below the hotel.

WOW! They really do have a love of lighting and not just a simple chandelier here and there!
