Top Reasons to Visit London

October 3, 2018 by Jean Holy Smithereens 2 Comments

Let’s be honest, do we really need any more reasons to visit London?

London is one of the most vibrant and popular cities in the world, welcoming millions of visitors from around the world every single year. If you’ve never visited London before then it should certainly be a city on your bucket list, whilst if you’ve already visited the city there’s still so much more to see and do. Short term London rentals are a great way to visit the city and live like a local, whilst enjoying all of the comforts that you might not find in an impersonal city hotel. Struggling to decide whether London is the right city for you? Here are some of the top reasons to visit London, and some of the city’s must see attractions:

Historical Attractions

When visiting London, most people plan to see the Queen. Whilst it’s unlikely that you will actually see HRH during your stay, it is possible to visit her royal residences, and many other historical, Royal attractions that sit in the heart of London. From Buckingham Palace to the Houses of Parliament, Somerset House to Hampton Court Palace, there are a wonderful array of historical attractions ripe for exploration when you visit London. Where else can you visit in the world where you can explore a palace that is actually still the official home of the Royal Family? Buckingham Palace opens to the public every summer, and is a true highlight of a summer visit to the city.

Marvellous Museums

London is home to some of the best museums in the world and, unlike in most of the other capital cities of the world, entry to most of these museums is completely free. You can walk with dinosaurs in the Natural History Museum, explore some of the world’s finest art at the Tate or the Tate Modern, or see some of the most important and beautiful costumes and dresses in the Victoria and Albert museum. All without spending a penny! If you’re spending any time in London then be sure to allow at least one or two days to enjoy the city’s marvelous museums.

Go Shopping

If you love shopping then you’ll love London! London is one of the fashion capitals of the world, and the great British high street is famed for its high quality, affordable shopping. If you’re looking for high end goods then department stores such as Harrods, Selfridges and Harvey Nicols should all be your first port of call, whilst Oxford Street and Regents Street are all great options for those seeking more affordable retail therapy. London also boasts a wonderful selection of street markets where you can mingle with the locals and enjoy the vibrant humour of the British haggler in action.  Whatever kind of shopping you’ve looking for (from high end to vintage and everything in between) London is the perfect place to be.

Walk Along the Thames

The River Thames is often called the heart of London: it is the lifeblood that flows through the city, and all of the city’s best attractions are situated either on or close to the river. By walking along the Thames you will be able to enjoy one of the most famous and spectacular skylines in the world, and if you really want to enjoy and explore the river you can also take a boat ride along the Thames. You could opt for a water bus, a water taxi, or even enjoy a guided river cruise that will describe all of the best attractions to you as you pass them. There may not be any Gondolas, but London even has its own Little Venice: it contains everything you could want to see and more.

Gorgeous Green Spaces

Finally, why not spend some time enjoying some of the many wonderful green spaces that London boasts? Despite being a huge urban space, London has a surprising amount of green space, thanks to its huge number of Royal parks. St James Park and Hyde Park are the two most popular royal parks in the heart of the city whilst to the North of the city you’ll find Hampstead Heath: the perfect place for a Sunday afternoon walk. If you enjoy people watching and want to see how real Londoners really love then watching them relax in their local parks is the perfect place to be
