Beginner To Pro Rider | How To Switch To Pro Motocross Gear

August 5, 2020 by Jean Holy Smithereens Leave a Comment

Motocross is a sport where its audience uses only 10 percent of their seat -the edge. Motocross is an extreme sport that attracts thrill-seeking and adrenaline hungry riders. They jump, speed, leap, stunt, and always live in close proximity to a crash. The wear and tear of motocross demands extremely well-designed motocross gear.

If you’ve been riding for a long time, or if you’ve gained enough experience to outgrow the entry-level gear, and if you can’t seem to shake off the motocross madness, then you’re ready to up your game to the next MX level. All you need now is a finer level of gear to match your higher level of riding.

But What Does Finer Gear Mean?

When it comes to motocross, it’s not if you get hurt it’s when you get hurt. All experienced riders have crashed in their careers and they understand the spotlight high-quality gear deserves.

Finer gear means upgrading to a higher level of gear quality, this means multiple features, increased mobility, and a smaller tradeoff between lightweight and heavy protection.

5 Gears To Enter The Pro League

There’s a significant difference in the quality between pro and entry-level riders, brand-wise and build-wise. Here is the gear to consider if you want to look and move like a pro:

Finer Gear #1: Helmet

The importance of helmets cannot be understated. Pro riders give disproportionate time to choosing a helmet compared to other gear due to the vital role it plays in their safety. Owing to their consequence in the event of a crash, designers have continuously innovated to create helmets that are more efficient at absorbing crash impact.

Pros look for: MIPS, great ventilation system, large eye port, long warranty, crash impact handling system, lightweight

Consider brands: Shoei, 6D, Fox, Alpinestars

Finer Gear #2: Body Armour

Body armour used by professionals gives them the ability to move freely while maintaining heavy-duty protection. It is your line of defence against the sharp rocks the leading rider will inevitably shoot back at you at some point, therefore, it needs to be able to withstand and deflect them.

Pros look for: CE certification, high impact polycarbonate external shell material, Removable arm guards, Padding around the neck and shoulder areas, lightweight, cooling vents

Consider brands: Leatt, Alpinestars, Fox, EVS sports

Finer Gear #3: Goggles

Dust, dirt, mud, and flying rocks are not an ideal environment for eyes. With protecting your eyes, pro dirt bike goggles offer advanced comfort and mechanisms to keep your vision clear and focused on the track.

Pros look for: tear-off or roll-off lens capability, good ventilation, anti-fog, good peripheral vision, face foam, UV protection

Consider brands: Oakley, Fox, Armega, Racecraft+

Finer Gear #4: Gloves

To have a better grip on your dirt bike and your competition, you need gloves that are durable, tough, and comfortable. The level of grip they offer is a major deciding factor.

Pros look for: padding, abrasion resistance, stretch, fitting, grip

Consider brands: Fly Racing, Fox, Troy Lee, Klim

Finer Gear #5: Boots

Your boots are in the line of fire during your ride and they will be subjected to a lot of flying debris. Good quality boots do a fantastic job creating protection using various reinforcements and paddings.

Pros Look for: double density ankle foam, high wear resistance, armoring quality, plate guards for the toe area, water preventing inner linings.

Consider brands: TCXBoots, Fox, Alpinestars, Gaerne

Conclusion

Gearing up like a pro has its costs, but it’s worth the price. With upgraded motocross gear you’ll have extreme protection for the extreme sport, and you can confidently unleash the daredevil in you.
