Not that we have anything against scented candles, but given the year we’ve had? We definitely need more than that– We probably all need generous vouchers from Serenity Store in order to soothe our entire well-beings!
Well looking at the bright side, self-care is something that most of us have probably gotten to know or master this year. Whereas self-care and wellness was considered a luxurious treat in the past, this year has taught us that we actually need it to survive.
Personally, I’m glad to have progressed in my definition and category of self-care. Prior to this year, I used to think that self-care merely consisted of getting a massage or going to the salon. Sure, that’s self-care too but this year, I’ve gone deep (we’re talking soul level) into caring for myself and I’m absolutely glad to have discovered it.
I’ve also learned that we don’t really need to have any reason or wait for the holidays to give ourselves or those we care for the gift of wellness and self-care. But since the holidays are just around the corner, I thought I’d share this list.
I’ve personally been using most of these products and I’ve also given and recommended some of them to close friends.
Here’s to treating ourselves and others well. If we all learn how to properly give ourselves the care and wellness we need and not expect them from others…what a wonderful world it will be!
1.) Naked Collagen
I started taking collagen powder early this year when I realised that the creaking sounds I kept hearing when I workout weren’t from a rusty door hinge but from my very own knees (gasp!).
What a world of difference it’s made. I can now move about, squat and jump in silence. And collagen is the gift that keeps on giving. The added bonus is I’ve noticed I’m sleeping better and my skin looks much healthier.
I’ve since tried a few different brands, and one on my list is Naked Collagen. This is hydrolyzed collagen from grass-fed cows. I have only tried marine and pork-based collagen. I live on a mostly pescatarian diet and I realised I needed collagen from animals to keep my joints healthy. The reason why I am interested in trying out Naked Collagen is that they have only one ingredient: Grass-fed bovine hide collagen peptides. That’s why it’s “naked” because it’s stripped off additives and artificial sweeteners of flavouring.
There are plenty of collagen powder available in the market and I’ve noticed many of them contain other fancy ingredients that I don’t really need. Some of them market themselves as a skin-care product more than a joint health supplement.

2.) Sunrise Alarm Clock
Speaking of getting better sleep, here’s a great sleeping companion. This sunrise alarm clock with natural sounds work as a table or bedside lamp, alarm clock, radio, phone/tablet charger and a nighttime sleep stimulator.
I know I’m not the only one who falls asleep browsing social media or watching movies on my phone. It’s such an unhealthy habit that I really need to get rid of. This alarm clock gives ambient lighting when you need to sleep, and can provide your choice of soft ‘go to sleep’ sounds such as ocean waves etc and the light and sounds will go off as you sleep.

3.) Grass-fed Whey Protein Powder
Give the gift of purity! I know a lot of people who have used this time of global lockdown to become really fit and buff (some). This is what I’d like to give to my friends who are either just started taking protein powder, or those who have been taking it for quite some time and would like to make that switch to soy-free, hormone-free and gluten free protein powder that is really made up of just one ingredient: Grass fed whey protein.
This means that this protein powder is absolutely naked, containing NONE of the following: sweeteners, artificial flavouring, fake fibre, sneaky trans fats (this one has Zero), carcinogens or heavy metals.

4.) Back Stretcher
Give yourself and your loved ones the gift of good posture and relieved back strains and pains. I got this for myself several months ago to stretch my back after a good workout. Since then, a day hasn’t gone by without me using the back stretcher. Do not be fooled by appearances. It may look like a torture device but I guarantee that you will feel like you’ve just had a rejuvenating back massage. I lie on the floor with that device under my back. The instructions say you shouldn’t lie on it for more than 7 minutes. I’ve been guilty one too many times for falling asleep way beyond the suggested 7 minutes. It’s so rejuvenating that I notice I’m standing and sitting up straighter and my previous back strains are gone.
I also love how it stretches the shoulders. I quickly read how this simple nifty device helps the back: by stretching the back, it takes the pressure off the vertebrae which has been curved due to bad sitting / working position.
I call it my secret little chiro treatment!
5.) Naked Pea Protein
For various personal reasons, many people have turned to vegan this year. This is the perfect protein powder to give to vegan loved ones, or even non-vegans. Just like the Naked Whey Protein powder, the Naked Pea Protein Powder is also made without any artificial flavouring, no added sweeteners, no trans fats, carcinogens or heavy metals.
It’s really made out of just Yellow Pea Protein, with the starch and fibre removed. Because of the ‘nakedness’ of this vegan protein powder, it’s perfect to add to either fruit or green juices, or even soups. The natural flavour blends right in whether it’s savoury or sweet. Many reviews also state that it’s perfectly fine on its own too.

6.) Blackout Sleeping Eye Mask
For me, one of the best pleasures in life is to sleep in complete darkness. Not a glimmer or flicker of light. This isn’t always possible, so I’m planning to get one of these for myself. I’m not really a fan of eye masks in general until one dental visit, when the assistant put a weighted lavender eye mask over my eyes. It had me having a restful nap with my mouth wide open. I was sold since then.
The only problem I had with that eye mask was that it left sleep dents in my eye and I had that very obvious just-slept eyes. I thought that was the end of the road for me and weighted eye masks until I saw these blackout sleeping eye mask with eye chambers / cups. This takes the pressure off the eyelids, but still gives that complete blackout surroundings that weighted eye masks provide.
I would give this to friends who, like me are fans of complete blackout when sleeping. And also to friends who haven’t yet tried sleeping in complete darkness.
7.) Healing Mantra Deck
One of the best things I’ve done this year was to give focus on my spiritual health. Because therapy is expensive, and self-discovery is always a joy, I decided to give this healing mantra deck. I’ve been using it regularly before / after morning meditations, and I’m a changed man. My outlook has changed, the way I treat and speak to myself has changed greatly as well.
You don’t even need to have gone through a traumatic life to heal or treat yourself better. I didn’t realise how hard I’ve been on myself until I used this deck for meditation and journalling.
This is something I highly recommend for everyone to get for themselves.
