For some, traveling is a luxury that cannot be afforded frequently and is something that is often dreamt about rather than actually going. It doesn’t have to be such an expensive journey, there’s a lot you can do that cut down the costs while you travel! If money is a concern for you, cutting costs on a lot of your travel expenses may make those dream destinations much more likely for you!

Budget before you go
Your first concern before planning a trip should be your budget, you need to ask yourself “how much am I willing to spend on this vacation?”. Once you know how much you’re willing to splash on your travels, you can start to look at what might be within your price range! Traveling is never just click and go, there’s a lot of costs for you to consider before you can pack your bags; so be sure you allow for extra expenses when you’re budgeting yourself!
Bring your own food
Oftentimes travel food can be much more costly than it’s actually worth. If you’re planning to be traveling for a long time, you should consider bringing your own food to last you for at least some of the journey! Typically packing things like snacks, sandwiches, and such is common for most people who are traveling. Before you leave, make sure you check what you can take with you on the transport that you’ve booked!
Avoid restaurants
When you’re away from home, it’s pretty common practice to look for restaurants for your meals instead, but that’s not your best option if you’re trying to save money. Preparing to cook your own meals while you’re away can save you a bunch if you’re the type to eat out often! If you’re not much of a cook, you might consider learning some simple meals to keep you going before you leave! Cooking can be easy, it just requires a bit of time and effort; make sure you use easy to get ingredients so that you don’t struggle to find them abroad!
Check cheapest travel times
It’s no secret that travel prices aren’t consistently the same price at all hours, there are often hours where the demand for plane tickets is a lot less, and because of this, the prices tend to be much lower! It’s not desirable for most people to be getting on a plane in the early hours of the morning, but it’s ideal if you’re looking to save money! You’ll have to do your research to find your cheap tickets, as you won’t always find savings at different times of the day!
Consider different travel options
If you’re planning on going away for a while, it’s best to keep an open mind about your traveling methods! There are often multiple travel options, and you should be considering the price and comfort of each! Are you willing to sacrifice comfort for savings? Traveling by coach tends to be much cheaper than traveling by plane, but if you do that it’s going to take you much longer to reach your destination.
Book places to stay
If you’re planning to stay abroad for some time, you’re likely going to need a place to sleep, and you have multiple options all with different prices and benefits! Hotels, property rental, and hostels are all good options, but if you’re looking to save some money, hotels might not be your best bet! Renting a property might be cheaper for you if you’re planning to stay for an extended period of time, and hostels are a great way to save if you’re just passing through!
Be flexible with your destinations
When you’re planning to go to popular holiday destinations, you might find that it can cost more for you to travel directly there, rather than taking an alternate route to it! If you search around and you’re set on going to a popular destination, you should check to see if you can save money by getting a plane or coach to someone nearby instead, then taking other means of transport to where you want to go! Avoid the inflation of price from the high demand for tickets. It can take more time to get there, but if you’re looking to save then it’s ideal for you!
Research prices per season
Just like looking for different plane tickets at different times of the day, you might try looking into prices of tickets and destinations based on the season. You’re much more likely to save money on traveling if you avoid peak times to travel and aim for your destinations during the off-season! Of course, you’re giving up the benefits of going during peak time, like the weather, but that doesn’t mean it should be a dealbreaker!
Compare prices on different sites
Different times aren’t the only thing you should be checking when you’re planning to book a holiday for yourself, you should also be looking at a number of different sites to see if you’re getting the best price you can! Not all sites will host the same price range, and you might find that you’re spending much more money than necessary. Don’t limit your options by forgetting to research all of them, there’s usually always a better deal for your money – don’t take the first offer that catches your eye!

Research cheap activities
There’s often a lot to do at different holiday destinations, but the most obvious choices are going to be the tourist attractions, and these often will come with a charge to visit them! If you have your destination planned out, you should look into more you can do in the area. That’s not to say you should avoid tourist attractions, but you’ll have an easier time making your holiday memorable and saving money if you plan cheap free activities ahead of time!
Saving money on your holiday isn’t all about taking all of the fun away from it, but more about finding new ways to enjoy it without spending all of your money. If you want to travel frequently, these costs soon add up, and you will struggle to keep traveling!
