When it comes to island-hopping on a sailing trip, there is so much beauty to discover, and some of the most stunning islands you can find are in Southeast Asia – in the picturesque wonders of Thailand to be exact.
Thailand’s stunning isles hold many a treat for the curious to uncover – and I’m not just talking about their delicious food.
As a perfect destination to be explored using the water, this is an area where motor-powered catamarans by Illiad can be found for much of the year.
So, let’s set sail around the former Kingdom of Siam and reveal the coastal adventure and the treasures of this group of islands and its waters.
Koh Samui:
As probably one of Thailand’s most well known, Koh Samui is what many see as the location for Thailand’s main tourism destination.
With its magnificent beaches and affordable accommodation, this Koh (“island” in Thai) sees an influx of family holiday visitors as well as tourists who seek to learn more about the spiritual, with many Buddhist temples on the island.
This large island is also a great gateway for backpackers wanting to see Thailand for the first time, as there is always life and excitement going on and is great to do on a budget.
Koh Samui and the other islands are great all year round, but with the tropical climate, January to August is your optimal sailing opportunity.
Koh Phangan
Home to some great natural lagoon pools, this Thai paradise is the perfect place if you want to get back to nature.
While it has its reputation with Full Moon Party revellers, you can find some peace in its diversity and that of its hiking trails.
Koh Lanta:
These two islets (Lanta “Yai” – Big and Lanta “Noi” – small) are your best isle for a peaceful honeymoon or for an island where you just want to get away from distractions.
Their lack of motorised water vehicles allows for pristine and calm water activities such as snorkelling and the traditional wind sailboat.
Finally, while they do cater for the budget backpacker, that doesn’t mean that luxury isn’t on the menu.
The prime indulgence on this island is that of Pimalai Resort. With their spa for you to indulge in and to stay in one of the signature Ocean View Pool villas.
Phuket:
As Thailand’s most famous next to Koh Samui, it is the largest island in the archipelago. Here is where you will find the adventure and relaxation that so many people seek.
Here you can indulge in some spicy and delicious cuisine that Thailand is known for if you choose to come ashore and taste a delicious dish.
Koh Kut:
If you intend to sail the boat around the coastline in a glistening sunset or just sit on the deck and look at it for that matter, this island is the perfect place.
This is where you come to leave your thoughts behind and enjoy some true peace.
If your idea of paradise is the thought of sitting on the deck of the boat or lying in a hammock on the beach with a cocktail and looking out to sea, then this island is the ultimate dreamscape.
Koh Phi Phi:
This island is a picturesque treasure trove with marine life and since the release of the film “The Beach”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Maya Bay has boomed with tourists.
This is the perfect island for sailors, with many cruisers and catamarans travelling its coastline.
With its corals and shimmering blue-green waters, it is the ideal spot if you want to dip below the surface.
