We transited in Auckland on the way to the US (via Papaeete). We stayed at the Novotel Auckland Airport hotel. When I was choosing what airport hotel to stay at, I took the time to look at the room photos and also the proximity of the hotel to the airport.
The Novotel stands to be the best among all airport hotels from photographs and reviews alone.
*post note: on our way back from this entire big holiday, Air New Zealand put us up for 1 night’s accommodation at the Holiday Inn Airport hotel due to a flight delay. Hands down, the Novotel WINS.*
Prior to arriving in Auckland, I emailed the hotel and asked if they could provide transfers for us. They replied that they do not offer any transfers as they are That close to the airport. All I needed to do was cross the road they said.
And the pragmatic me thought, “that’s what all airport hotels say…”
And when we finally arrived in Auckland airport, I saw that the Novotel was really in-your-face near the airport. It’s not inside the airport as most international airports house their airport hotels (where the rooms/boxes sure do like they are made for airport living). The Novotel is so close that even inside the airport, there are directions leading you to the gate to exit to get to Novotel.
So see that photo above of the hotel facade? I literally swivelled around, and took a photo of what’s behind:

The Airport!!! I was so thrilled with how close they really are. We could even push our luggage trolleys inside the hotel. With how close the airport is to the hotel, it meant we could sleep in, which was super.
Now it isn’t just the close proximity why this hotel is a winner. The rooms are quite spacious and honestly is the best among the other airport hotels.

We were travelling for 6 weeks so my criteria in searching for a hotel had an additional requirement: spacious enough to house my huge bags.
The next day, I peered out of the window.

Why it’s the airport , right in yo face.
We didn’t have any kind of mad rush getting ready to checkout. In just a few moments after checking out, we were well on our way to continue our journey.
