Well here we are almost in the middle of March. My feet have been itching like crazy, so it’s time to announce the first Holy Smithereens overseas travel for 2014.
Our last travel for 2013 took us to chilly Iceland, so I reckon it’s time to do abit of defrosting…
This weekend, Zombie and I are off to the Maldives!

The Maldives is made up of over 1,100 coral islands formed around 26 atolls.

This is our first time both to visit the Maldives so we’re thrilled to be spending 2 weeks exploring the different atolls and coral reefs.
And along with discovering and finding new adventures comes a whole lot of reportage to bring you guys.
I’m very excited to show what you can expect out of this trip:
RESORTS

This is the main thing we will be featuring on our trip. The Maldives is teemed with hundreds of different resorts, that the dilemma lies in choosing where to stay. We’ve carefully selected a handful of luxury resorts for this trip, and as each resort is very different to the other, I’m quite thrilled to experience them and of course, give you the blow-by-blow feature and review so you know where to stay when you plan your Maldives trip!
UNDERWATER

I come alive when there’s water! Just as we’ve done in Bora-Bora and the Philippines, expect a whole lot of snorkelling, free-diving and scuba-diving in this trip. We’re hoping to see a lot of marine life and creatures. So far when I did my research on scuba diving / snorkelling in Maldives, the reefs look very promising so I’m looking forward to that.
I don’t know how else to describe my love for the ocean. Sebastian the Crab explains it eloquently:
Down here all the fish is happy
As off through the waves they roll
The fish on the land ain’t happy
They sad ’cause they in their bowlJust look at the world around you
Right here on the ocean floor
Such wonderful things surround you
What more is you lookin’ for?
CAMERA

Now you didn’t expect us to just take all the underwater wonders ourselves and not share it, did you? For this trip, Zombie did a whole lot of research to find the best underwater action camera to take with us. We will be featuring a lot of underwater and action takes so stay tuned for some splash.
SWIM and RESORT WEAR

Hey this is the Maldives so only the best swimwear will do! And when I say ‘the best’, I mean swimwear that looks and feels comfortable both over and underwater. From bikinis, to maillots and kaftans, I’ll be featuring what is best to take with you for an indulgent and adventurous Maldives trip. If you liked my “What to Pack for Iceland” post, you will love it’s polar opposite counterpart, “What to Pack for a Maldives Trip”, coming soon 🙂
TRAVEL GEAR

I was frustrated after our Europe trip. My luggage (a popular brand that everyone seems to love) couldn’t hack it. It didn’t take to the mix of adventure and luxury that I always do on trips. I honestly expected more from a well-known brand. So for this Maldives trip, I looked for a replacement (an upgrade definitely) that can also be compact and portable enough to carry on several seaplane flights. I’m so excited to test and see how it goes and give you the low-down on this!
Follow my adventures in real-time!
Since I will be hopping from island to island (and atoll to atoll), I will be doing live updates on Holy Smithereens social media.
Be sure to never miss a day of shenanigans (and indulgence too), so come over and follow me through:

Have you been to the Maldives? Any recommended activities?
If you haven’t been yet, what in particular would you like to see of the Maldives?
Jealous!!!
We were going to head to the Maldives as a last destination for our trip in October but decided not to as its quiet expensive – on top of our already very expensive trip to China and Sinagpore…
Look forward to following your Maldives adventure, will be looking for some great tips! Might head there next year
Look forward to see how your photos turn out. Be safe.
Have a great trip! I’m jealous of all the blue you are going to be surrounded by. Can’t wait to see and hear more. Very curious about the luggage that didn’t hold up.
Hi Ann,
Im back from the Maldives. Can’t wait to start writing all the review. Very pleased to say that the new luggage held up and was very impressive– detailed write up and photos to follow 🙂
Bell and I have both marvelled as we’ve followed along you guys’ trip around the Maldives on social media. It has indeed lived up to “Holy Smithereens!” We’ve loved the photos and seeing the amazing things you’ve gotten up to, as usual- great job to both of you!! 😀
Hi Alex, thank you to you and Bell for following along. Maldives is such a great place. Zombie and I are marvelling at your exciting lifestyles. Hello Boston!! 🙂 I wont be surprised if one day you guys MOVE to the Maldives!
