A pillow of billowy clouds….
This is what greeted me when the door of the plane opened at 15,00 feet above ground.

And strangely, I felt calm. Like the clouds were softly calling out to me to come and bounce on them like little cherubs do.
Except I’m no cherub.
So when I jumped, (along with Derek, the skydive instructor), we free-fell towards the ground at approximately 230KPH.

And how did I find myself in this situation to begin with, you ask?
Simple. For over 15 years now, I’ve been dreaming of doing this. To be honest, at 33, I’m quite late in the game of skydiving, but better late than never right?
I’ve done a lot of stunts in my time but somehow never got to do skydiving.
So when my dream weekend in Perth came true to life, I took the chance to skydive. After all, this also means I get to hit 2 birds in one jump.
1. To do a city skydive of Perth would mean I get to see the city in bird’s eye view (real life Google Maps!), and 2. I get to finally do a long awaited dream.
It’s about time.

We were staying at the Pan Pacific Perth, which proved to be the perfect location.
We only had 48 hours in Perth so logistics are a must. Sky Dive the Beach and Beyond Perth had their pick up location just behind Pan Pacific.
A short stroll and here we are.

Did I mention that the landing zone of the skydive was also here?
Yup, right in the city. And for me, right next to our hotel!
The staff greeted us warmly and after we were weighed (yes, this is a must!) , we signed the necessary forms, got fitted into our harnesses, and off we go!
And if you are worried about first time jitters (I had first time jumping fever, I was so excited!), you need not worry, the staff of Skydive the Beach Perth are all very warm and friendly. If you are dreading the jump, I’m sure you will be looking forward to it after having a chat with them!

Soon, we all boarded a van and all 10 of us (as this was a tandem-skydive group, there were 5 with a skydiving instructor each) were driven to the airport.
When we arrived at the airport, we paired off with our respective instructors, and my instructor, a cool guy named Derek, briefed me with what’s about to come, how we will position mid-air, and the altitude and speed of our jump, etc.
He also took all of the footage of our jump!

Now I was all excited to jump and had the most wonderful time, but if I were to re-live this experience, there’s one thing I would have done differently:
Wear a thicker jumper/jacket.
You see, on ground, I was actually a little bit warm. But I didn’t anticipate and take into consideration that it might be a little bit windy up there?? (Doh!)
So by the time we reached close to 15,000 feet, while I was having a ball, I was also looking forward to the jump because I was freezing!
But this just adds to the COOL factor, doesn’t it??
We were first to jump off the plane hence I saw the very inviting pillow of clouds.
After the jump, all I felt (and heard) were the deafening WHOOSH of wind.

Wind was everywhere, it was flapping my face, blasting up my nose– so much that my initial thought after the jump was, “How on earth do I breathe?”
But in just a few seconds, my body relaxed and I was able to take in air.
Well no matter how I describe the jump and the funny sensations, you really wouldn’t be able to picture how it was without a video.
So here it is, my Perth skydiving video, in all it’s exciting, adrenalin-rush inducing, face-flapping action!
So seriously, how cool was that??
I forgot all about feeling cold, and just enjoyed the moment. And the face-flapping has a very ticklish effect on me hence why I could not stop laughing whilst hurtling towards the ground too!
But the video just makes me smile because I was able to finally do what I’ve been dreaming of doing, and yes,
I would absolutely do it over and over again!

And one of the coolest things is seeing the block where we have been staying (waving hello to Pan Pacific) and knowing we were going to land there in just seconds!
I’m so happy to have skydived and I thank the guys over at Skydive the Beach & Beyond Perth for making this first experience such an enjoyable one!
