The Best Asian Cities To Visit On Your First Trip To The Continent

December 7, 2020 by Jean Holy Smithereens Leave a Comment

Asia is one of the most diverse and vibrant continents in the world. Whether you are looking for historical temples, modern megacities, or beautiful natural landscapes, you can find it all here. But it’s the cities that are the biggest draw for many visitors to Asia, and there is a lot of variation here as well. When you are planning your trip, it’s important to think about what kind of travel experience you are looking for, so you can choose the perfect Asian city for you.

There are plenty of modern cities where you will find luxury hotels and top of the line restaurants. But some people don’t want that and they would prefer a more traditional city experience where they can sample the local cuisine and visit sites of historical interest.

If you are planning a trip to Asia but you are not sure where to go, this list of the best Asian cities will help you make your decision.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of the best known Asian cities. It has a reputation for being a business hub, which it is, but there are plenty of great reasons for tourists to visit the city as well. One of the interesting things about Hong Kong that people don’t realise is that there is actually a lot of countryside outside of the city. It’s not just a huge metropolis filled with businessmen; you will also find quaint farms, beautiful countryside, national parks and beaches.

It’s a very multicultural city with strong western influences, so if you have never visited Asia before, it’s a brilliant starting point. The range of food on offer is huge and as well as traditional local cuisine, you can find dishes from around the world, with plenty of high-end restaurants if you want to treat yourself.

Many people start and end their trip to China in Hong Kong, but if you only have time to do one destination, it’s still one of the best cities to go to.

Singapore

Singapore is an incredible city, and it’s often rated as one of the best places in the world for quality of life. If you’re a food lover, Singapore is an absolute must because you will find some of the best Michelin starred restaurants in the world, as well as some delicious local street food. If you time your trip right, you can enjoy one of the amazing food festivals that takes place in the city.

If you look at the average condo Singapore price, you’ll see that staying there, or even moving there for good, isn’t too expensive. There are plenty of beautiful luxury hotels and apartments, so if you want to travel Asia in style, this is one of the best cities for you.

Singapore is also known for its vibrant nightlife. There are plenty of well known clubs and bars, but you will also find lots of hidden gems tucked away down side streets if you explore a bit. The list of Asia’s top 50 bars included 11 bars from Singapore, so if you’re looking for great nightlife, you won’t be disappointed.

Bali

Bali in Indonesia has long been a favourite for backpackers, but it also attracts surfers, luxury travellers and honeymooners as well because there is a bit of something for everybody. If you are looking for an idyllic paradise rather than a bustling megacity, Bali is the perfect place for you. The beaches are among the most beautiful in the world and the weather is incredible. There is also a lot of variation in the beaches, so there are great places for relaxing and sunbathing but there are also some brilliant beaches for thrill seekers that want to get involved with some water sports.

If you want a break from the beaches and you want to take in some culture, you won’t be short of amazing temples to visit. Cultural traditions are very important in Bali and as a tourist, you can get involved with the many celebrations and rituals that are going on throughout the year.

Like most places in Asia, the food in Bali is delicious. You can find authentic local cuisine on every corner, but there are plenty of international options from Mexico, America, France, Greece, and China too.

But the thing that leaves the biggest impression when visiting Bali is the people. The locals are so welcoming and friendly, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it the perfect destination for a relaxing, luxurious getaway.

Asia has so many incredible destinations for travellers and no matter how many times you return, you can never explore it all. But these are the best cities for a first time visit.
