Injuries are inevitable both in the workplace and when you are going about your day-to-day life. There is a chance that you can get hurt by anything especially if there is an emergency. Things like fires and earthquakes happen and you are unable to prevent them. If you have sustained an injury, then it is important that you know what you can do. When you are hurt it can be easy to panic, that is why you need to have a plan in mind for what to do.
Having the right equipment
When you or someone you are near suffers an injury, it is important that you have the right equipment to treat them. You need to make sure that you have the right wound dressings for any minor scrapes, cuts, or burns. Importantly, you need to make sure that the dressings you put on are applied correctly and will last. You should think about investing in wound dressings like the shower shield that can stay applied when wet.
Achieve the three P’s
The three P’s are the main goals of first aid. They are to preserve life, prevent further injury, and promote recovery. These are simple but that is the reason for having them. It can be easy to get swept away in the panic of a situation, so you need simple goals to keep in mind. These remind you of the basics and can help you save a person’s life. These simple messages can keep the person from harm and help them to recover.
Treating scrapes and cuts
If you notice that the injured person is bleeding, then you need to put a stop to it as soon as you can. Blood is the most vital component of the body, and you need to stop it from leaving the body. You should look for a clean bandage and apply gentle pressure for around 30 minutes. You can clean the wound by running water over it but do not use soap on an open wound. You should use an antibiotic on the wound and then cover it with a bandage.
Sprains
These are some of the most common injuries that happen. Whilst they are not that alarming and can heal on their own, sprains can put you in a tricky situation if you are hiking or away from populated areas. To help these heal quicker you should reduce the swelling by keeping the injured part elevated and applying ice. Though you should not apply ice directly to the skin. Wrap it in a cloth then apply it. Make sure the injured person stops putting weight on it.
Injuries and first aid
Many workplaces now operate first aid training days, but these skills can be useful in your everyday life. Knowing what to do and having a well-stocked first aid kit can make sure that most minor injuries are resolved without too much hassle. If there is a more serious injury, you should do what you can but contact the emergency services as soon as possible.
