The Hotel That Taught Me How to Actually Sleep Well

I recently flew to Singapore for an active weekend getaway, the highlight being my first ever Disney Run at Sentosa Island. If you’ve ever trained for or run an early morning race, you know rest isn’t optional. It’s part of the prep.

I didn’t expect my hotel to play such a big role in that recovery, but Pan Pacific Orchard changed that.

The hotel itself is already a bit of a marvel. Designed by WOHA Architects, it’s picked up major global recognition, including Best Tall Building Worldwide and Best Tall Building (Asia) from the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. But what stuck with me wasn’t the architecture. It was how intentional the hotel is about something as simple, and as often overlooked, as sleep.

Why Sleep Matters More Than We Give It Credit For

It’s easy to treat sleep as an afterthought on a trip, especially when there’s a full itinerary to get through. But good sleep affects everything: energy, focus, mood, even how your body physically holds up the next day. On a trip built around an early morning run, I knew I couldn’t afford to skip it.

That’s where Pan Pacific Orchard’s Happy Sleeper’s Programme came in. It’s built around three pillars: a thoughtful bedding collection, something called Slumber Supper, and a handful of sleep enhancers, all designed to work with the senses rather than against them.

The Night Before the Run: Slumber Supper

The night before my race, the hotel sent up Slumber Supper: a warm drink and a couple of light bites meant to ease you into sleep. I went with warm oat milk, paired with milo chocolate truffles and cinnamon pâte de fruits.

I’ll admit, I was skeptical. The night before a run, I’m usually too wired to sleep well, and I’ve learned the hard way that supplements like melatonin don’t agree with me. But this wasn’t a supplement. It was just a warm drink and a small treat, and somehow, that was enough. I felt genuinely calm and cozy, and I fell asleep faster than I expected.

I woke up rested and full of energy for the run. Sometimes the simplest remedies really are the best ones.

The Night After: A Scalp Ritual at St. Gregory Spa

Recovery didn’t stop at the finish line. The evening after the race, still part of the Happy Sleeper’s Programme, I had a 15-minute scalp ritual at St. Gregory Spa.

Fifteen minutes sounds short, but it was exactly enough. Not so long that I felt groggy afterward, but just enough to melt away the day’s fatigue. That night, I had probably the deepest sleep I’ve ever had in a hotel.

The Small Details That Made a Big Difference

Beyond the programme itself, a few details in my Beach Terrace King room quietly did a lot of heavy lifting:

  • The mattress struck a solid balance between comfort and support.
  • The topper added a cloud-like layer on top, while helping regulate temperature through the night.
  • The duvet, filled with 90% goose down, felt like sinking into a warm hug.

On top of that, the hotel sent up pillow mists to round out the experience. None of it felt over-engineered. It felt like comfort, done well.

What Else the Happy Sleeper’s Programme Offers

I didn’t get to try everything, but the programme includes a few other touches worth mentioning, depending on how long you’re staying or how tiring your journey was to get there:

  • A customizable bath experience, using products from St. Gregory Spa, with the option to add food or massage.
  • Aromatic sleep therapy, a scenting ritual crafted by a specialist in natural fragrances, meant to ease the mind before rest.
  • A sleep meditation playlist, for those who like a bit of sound to wind down to.
  • A curated selection of books, because reading before bed genuinely does help quiet a busy mind and relax the body.
  • A pillow menu, so you can choose the firmness and softness that actually works for you.

A Stay That Followed Me Home

What struck me most is how unfussy all of this was. No gadgets, no gimmicks. Just a warm drink, a gentle scalp massage, thoughtful bedding, and a few small rituals borrowed from things we already know work.

Since coming home to Manila, I’ve actually tried to hold on to some of it, cutting back on screen time before bed being the big one. And it’s helped. I’ve been waking up better ever since.

Most hotels give you a good night’s sleep. Pan Pacific Orchard gave me a new bedtime routine, and honestly, my sleep schedule owes them a thank-you note.
